I saw Avatar this past weekend with my wife. Not the 3-D version. The movie theater near my wife's hometown in rural Ohio just had the regular 2-D version. The special effects were very cool. The characters were one-dimensional and the plot was predictable. But it's a fun, shut-off-you-mind, kind of adventure movie.
Though, this opinion is apparently the most wrong one.
There are only two approved interpretations of this film:
1) It Changes Film-making Forevah!!
2) It's Yet Another Example of Our Horrible Racist Culture!!
Update: This is the best (and funniest) review of the movie that I have read. From The Filthy Critic.

Haven't seeing Avatar, pretty much doubt I will, doesn't appeal me that much, sort of like "Pocahontas in space"?
Have you seeing "The Road", rich?
hictio, when my wife and I walked out of the movie theater, she asked me what I thought of it. I said, "It's Dances with Wolves in Space, but with a happy ending."
I haven't yet seen "The Road." Did you see it? What did you think of it?
Nope, not yet.
Have you read the book? Did you liked it?
No, I haven't read the book. I've only read one book by Cormac McCarthy (Blood Meridian) and I was underwhelmed, didn't think he lived up to the hype.
